Senior District Orchestra Audition in November and concert performance on January for the district XII.

Both regional and district ensembles are open to high school students.  Ensemble membership is determined by audition and the orchestra performs one concert.  The orchestra is led by a different guest conductor each year in a variety of repertoire.  Membership in regional orchestra is a qualifying event for All-State Orchestra auditions. 

All-State Orchestra  Audition in February and concert performance in April for All-Virginia Orchestra sponsored by VBODA – Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association.   

The Tri-M Music Honor Society, sponsored by National Association for Music Education (nafme), is the international music honor society for middle and high school students. It is designed to recognize, reward, and inspire students for their academic and musical achievements and service activities.  Membership interest meeting in September; Induction ceremony in November.  Tri-M website

District Assessment Festival held in March, sponsored by VBODA – Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, is open to all high schools in the district XII to participate in the concert performance to be assessed by selected adjudicators.  Different adjudicators are selected each year.  

Spring Trip  Each year orchestra students goes on a trip as a reward for a hard work throughout the year.  While the trip is not mandatory, it is highly recommended to participate as the focus of the trip is to build strong bond among musicians and build camaraderie within orchestra.  Depending on the locations, arrangements are made for students to have an enrichment experience during the trip such as performing at a local venue or meeting and interacting with the professional orchestra. 

End-of-Year Banquet  This is the end of the year celebration with special recognition for seniors.  Entire orchestra families come together to socialize and celebrate the year’s accomplishments.  

Baccalaureate  Select musicians in Chamber Orchestra perform at the Baccalaureate service.

Convocation & Graduation  Philharmonic and Chamber group perform at these events in alternating years.
