
The Madison Orchestra is comprised of the Concert, Symphonic, Philharmonic, and Chamber Orchestras. Membership in each of the orchestras is by annual audition.
The Chamber Orchestra is the most advanced of Madison’s ensembles. It prepares and performs orchestral masterworks, contemporary string literature, and music that would be best described as college-level, advanced, or Grade 6 music. This ensemble will perform at various concerts, festivals, and civic events. It is expected that all members of the James Madison Chamber Orchestra study privately and achieve and maintain a level of individual performance indicative of private study.
The Philharmonic Orchestra plays grade 5 and 6 music. The level of performance of this ensemble is far beyond most high school orchestra programs nationwide. This ensemble will perform at various concerts, festivals, and civic events. It is expected that all members of the James Madison Philharmonic Orchestra achieve and maintain a level of individual performance indicative of private study.
The Symphonic Orchestra plays grade 4 and 5 music and includes accomplished musicians. This ensemble will perform four concerts and two festivals per year.
